A Stream About Nothing: ‘Seinfeld’ Coming to Hulu

It’s anything but a “yada yada yada’’ scenario: The 180-episode Seinfeld series is coming to Hulu exclusively with a price tag of nearly a million dollars per episode.

While it’s expected that the announcement will come in its official glory at Hulu’s upfront presentation later today, the nearly $180 million in profits will be split among Sony TV, Time Warner’s Castle Rock, and key Seinfeld members like Jerry Seinfeld and co-creator Larry David.

The deal comes at the end of a several-month-long series shop by Sony, which had made select episodes of the show available on the Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) service Crackle, but Hulu is buying the rights to the full series and, by extension, a whole new generation of Seinfeld fans.

Seinfeld is a big get for Hulu, particularly after Netflix swiped up the complete series of still-popular NBC hit Friends late last year at nearly $500,000 an episode. Though an exact release date has yet to be announced, it looks like Jerry, George, Kramer, and Elaine will be your next binge-watching project in the very near future.
