John Oliver says it’s time for GOP to stop whining and come up with Obamacare replacement

The subject of Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and efforts by Republicans to replace and repeal the bill. Specifically, the HBO host criticized the GOP for two things: its lack of details for a replacement plan despite having years to come up with a new bill, and how its few proposed ideas would negatively affect many Americans.

At one point, Oliver took specific aim at a plan once proposed by Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price for refundable tax credits that, according to Oliver, would barely cover a third of the costs of the least expensive healthcare plans currently on the market.

“A tax credit that small helps cover your health insurance the way a thong covers your dad’s a**,” Oliver said. “It doesn’t, and there’s something fundamentally wrong about that.”
