2015 was a year of laughs for Mark Wahlberg. His only big-screen roles were in Ted 2, Daddy’s Home, and a brief but amusing cameo in Entourage. With the new trailer for Deepwater Horizon, released Thursday, the jokes are over.

Deepwater Horizon is based on the real-life BP oil spill of 2010, when the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, dumping approximately 210 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico before crews could cap the leak almost three months later.

Wahlberg plays Mike Williams, an electronics technician on the oil rig with a wife (Kate Hudson) and daughter at home. According to a press release, the film will attempt to honor “the brave men and women whose heroism would save many on board, and change everyone’s lives forever.”

Deepwater Horizon, which will hit theaters September 30, reunites Wahlberg with director Peter Berg, who also directed Lone Survivor and the upcoming Patriots Day, both of which star the Dorchester native.

Along with the trailer, Summit Entertainment released posters for each of the movie’s five stars, including Wahlberg.
