Olivia Pope is coming to Cambridge today
Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals will honor Kerry Washington with a parade, roast, and press conference this afternoon.
The streets of Harvard Square will be rocking this afternoon, as Hasty Pudding Theatricals honors actress Kerry Washington with its 2016 Woman of the Year Award.
The nation’s oldest theater company will celebrate Washington by holding a parade in Harvard Square at 2:45 p.m., with Washington flanked by Hasty Pudding men in drag. Following the parade, the theater players will roast Washington, present her with the ceremonial Pudding Pot, and finally hold a press conference at around 4:30 p.m.
The Emmy-nominated actress, who plays Olivia Pope on the ABC hit drama Scandal is the 66th woman to receive the award, which was first bestowed in 1951. Past honorees including Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, and Burlington native Amy Poehler.
Hasty Pudding also began honoring a Man of the Year in 1963, and will hold a parade, roast, and ceremony for this year’s winner, actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, on Friday, February 5.
