HBO has greenlit a new series starring Mass. comedian Pete Holmes
The Lexington native is getting a big shot.
Comedian and Lexington native Pete Holmes, best known for his self-titled TBS talk show and his podcast You Made It Weird, is teaming up with superstar comedy producer Judd Apatow for a new HBO series.
According to Variety, the show, titled Crashing, stars Holmes as a sweet, wholesome comedian who resorts to crashing on the couches of the best comics in New York after his wife leaves him.
Holmes, who graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, Mass., shared the news with a touching Facebook post.
“I hugged my therapist for the first time this week,’’ Holmes wrote. “We’ve never hugged, even after substantial emotional breakthroughs, but we hugged for this. Twice. He wasn’t as soft as I had imagined.’’
Apatow is busy producing as ever, with a new Pee-wee Herman movie and a new series starring Gillian Jacobs coming to Netflix this winter. But with the Apatow-produced comedy Girlsofficially ending after six seasons, Crashing ensures HBO audiences haven’t seen the last of his work.
