BDC Now: Kevin Spacey Is a God of Impressions
Kevin Spacey has a sweet gig as the biggest name on Netflix, but after seeing his impressions on “The Tonight Show,’’ we’re convinced he should quit everything and take that show on the road. See his spot-on voices on today’s BDC Now, and read more about Taylor Swift’s awkward dancing, GoPro’s latest video, a new addition to the Pantheon of Mug Shots, and bowling’s new scoring system.
Kevin Spacey: A Man of Many Talents
With all due respect to Jimmy Fallon, we’re pretty sure “The Tonight Show’’ is turning into a place where celebrities just go to show off their unusual talents. Will Smith stopped by to show off his encyclopedic knowledge of hip-hop dancing. Daniel Radcliffe stunned the world with his skills on the mic as a rapper. And now Kevin Spacey revealed that, with his knack for impressions, he can be whoever he wants to be whenever he wants to be. In five minutes, Spacey turned himself into Johnny Carson, Christopher Walken, and Bill Clinton. He even upstaged Fallon’s Michael Caine impression with a spot-on riff of his own. We swear that if you watch this clip with your eyes closed, you’d think all those men were actually on the stage. Fallon doesn’t even need to be there.
Taylor Swift Can’t Dance
If you haven’t been paying attention, Taylor Swift has gone from fringe country-ish music artist to full-blown pop star in what feels like an instant. Now she’s casually dropping by Ryan Seacrest’s radio show to hang out and listen to Iggy Azalea. Unfortunately for Swift, Seacrest’s show has cameras placed around the studio. So while she was rocking out to “Black Widow,’’ the world was getting its first taste of the moves Taylor Swifts busts out when she’s singing along alone in her car. It’s awkward, to say the least. But hey, at least we’re starting to understand why Taylor Swift fans are mostly suburban middle-schoolers. She dances just like them.
GoPro Never Has a Dull Moment
It feels like there are only two possibilities here: Either buying a GoPro automatically makes your life way more interesting, or they only sell GoPro cameras to people who do amazing things. Honestly, there’s no other choice because every week there’s a new clip from GoPro that makes us feel like we need to go outside more. This week it’s surfer Koa Smith riding in a barrel wave for 27 seconds. That’s water underneath him, next to him, and flying over the top of him for nearly half a minute. Forget the skill that it requires to do something like that and think for a second about how terrifying it is. It’s a good thing Smith had a camera with him because we’re pretty sure this video is the only way we’ll ever experience something like that.
Only in Florida
Poor Micah David Dailey. The 20-year-old Florida man would probably prefer that the world never knew he was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. But alas, when you get arrested wearing a “Go Directly to Jail’’ Monopoly t-shirt, you and your mug shot are destined for five minutes of fame. So despite only facing relatively minor charges, Dailey will now forever be known as the guy who got arrested and spawned a million “he didn’t pass go or collect $200’’ jokes. Congratulations, Monopoly guy. You are now part of the Pantheon of Mug Shots – right up there next to handsome guy, meta guy, and Rick Perry.
Bowling’s Old Scoring System Strikes Out
It looks like it’s finally time to reset the pins on bowling’s whole scoring system thing. No longer will we be stuck spending our days confused about spares, strikes, what carries over to the next frame, and what in the world a “turkey’’ is. Instead, in an effort to become less confusing and get popular support as an Olympic sport, bowling is changing over to a “win each frame’’ system. Basically, the bowler who knocks down more pins in a given frame, wins that frame. Bowlers can also tie in a given frame, but the idea is that one bowler will win more frames by the end of the game. It certainly sounds simple enough, but we’re not really sure that confusion over scoring was the biggest obstacle between bowling and the Olympics.
