These Boston Celebrity-Themed Gifts We Found on Etsy Are Seriously Eclectic
The holidays are fast approaching (and let’s be real, gift giving is always fun), which means you’re going to need some fun ideas for presents. If you know someone who happens to be a Mark Wahlberg junkie, or perhaps has a deep affinity for Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope, well, we’ve dug up some of the most eclectic Boston celebrity memorabilia that exists on Etsy.
Mark Wahlberg: Get in his Calvins
Item: Vintage Calvin Klein boxer briefs, $60
Okay, so they aren’t technically his Calvins, but Etsy shop legitvintage has listed a handful of vintage Calvin Klein briefs circa Mark Wahlberg’s famous 1994 black-and-white modeling campaign. The online retailer also has a vintage Calvin jean jacket to help complete the Funky Bunch look.
Recommended for: Men with the sculpted body of Mark Wahlberg—from 20 years ago. If you don’t have the six pack of the “Good Vibrations’’-rapping 23-year-old, leave these size-32 briefs out of your Etsy basket.
Ben Affleck: Pray to the baseball gods who cursed him
Item: Saint Ben Affleck prayer candle, $9.99
The man who refused to wear a Yankees cap in “Gone Girl’’ (take that, Bronx Bombers) also happens to be plagued by a Red Sox curse. Our hometown boys have lost 15 straight games on Aug. 15, Affleck’s birthday, since “Good Will Hunting’’ debuted in 1997. Maybe praying with this candle will do the trick.
Recommended for: Red Sox fans who helped reverse the curse back in 2004—you have 10 months to get your prayer on.
Matt Damon: Eat him up
Item: Personalised “Bourne Identity’’ funny chocolate bar, $7.41
This chocolatey gem hails from the UK (hence the “s’’ in personalised), and features a sketch of Matt Damon on the candy bar’s sleeve. The Etsy description lauds it as the ideal gift for someone whose perfect night involves “lolling on the sofa’’ and watching “Bourne Identity’’ again and again—because who wouldn’t want to eat a Matt Damon chocolate bar while watching him blow things up on TV?
Recommended for: Weekend unwinders who could use a dose of Boston in their sweet treat.
Steven Tyler: Walk (your dog) this way
Item: Pink Leopard Martingale dog collar Steven Tyler style, $60
The frontman of Aerosmith and his microphone stand have been known to rock a scarf (or four). Etsy shop isabellabluedesigns has crafted a studded, pink leopard print, scarf-adorned collar, which it says is “So colorful and fun, Steven Tyler would be proud!’’
Recommended for: Fierce pups who can’t say no to silk and denim (or their owners).
Barbara Walters: Have dinner with the iconic journalist
Item: Rare Barbara Walters tray, $224.99
Whoever ponies up the change for this vintage Ohio Art tray likely won’t be serving meals on it, but it could serve as great Bostonian dinner fodder.
“Who’s that lovely young lady on the plate you’ve hung on the wall?’’
“Why, that’s a fierce, young Barbara Walters. Did you know she was born in Boston?’’
Recommended for: Neophytes hungry for Boston history.
Mindly Kaling: Two Mindys are better than one
Item: Two giant Mindy Kalings swinging a bearded man in a field (painting), $45.77
What’s better than one of Cambridge’s own funny lady, Mindy Kaling? Well, two of course. That was clearly the thinking behind this painting listed by DFASTARTIST featuring dueling Mindys: one in a red dress, the other in a red top and jeans. The pair are swinging what looks like a clothed Oompa Loompa in a meadow.
Recommended for: Folks who can’t get enough of “The Mindy Project,’’ because as DFASTARTIST puts it, “Why did I make it? I don’t know. I like the Mindy Project and you should too.’’
Amy Poehler: The stuff “Parks & Rec’’ dreams are made of
Item: Leslie Knope plush doll, made to order, $32.95
Amy Poehler made a name for herself on “Saturday Night Live,’’ but the Burlington-bred actress’s popularity skyrocketed in 2009 thanks to the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation.’’ Poehler’s character Leslie Knope, a feminist politician from Pawnee, Indiana, can be yours—as a custom-made stuffed animal. If you’re a big “Parks’’ fan, OutlawHeartCreations also custom makes plushies for Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson.
Recommended for: Breakfast lovers who know that the most important things are friends, waffles, and work or waffles, friends, work—in either of those orders.
Conan O’Brien: Let him be your guiding light
Item: Conan O’Brien glass night light, $45
Once upon a time, Conan O’Brien was a wee lad. Alas for him, a night light of own his face hadn’t yet been invented. Crafter Carey of the Etsy shop GlassAction writes that this 4-inch tribute to one of late night’s biggest names was presented to O’Brien in person and was part of the NYCoCoMoca exhibit last fall.
Recommended for: Die-hard Conan lovers who can’t get enough of the string dance—or for those who just wish to longingly gaze into his illuminated eyes—this Etsy find is for you.
