Sarah Hyland, known for ABC’s hit show “Modern Family,’’ was granted a domestic violence temporary restraining order against her former boyfriend, Matthew Prokop.

Hyland’s attorney, Lee A. Sherman, released this statement to E News today:

“On September 19, 2014, Ms. Hyland obtained a Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Order against Matthew Prokop. The documents filed speak for themselves. Out of respect for the court, the process and all parties, I have advised Ms. Hyland not to comment on the matter. We request that you respect the parties’ privacy during this time’’

Hyland’s courthouse documents, obtained by TMZ, stated Prokop overwhelmed the actress with “vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats,’’ even after the two ended a 5-year relationship in August.

Known for her upbeat and humorous personality on the small screen, Hyland’s allegations in her filing are chilling. She describes an incident in which Prokop pinned her against a car while choking her. “His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life,’’ Hyland detailed.
