The 2024 Boston Marathon may be two months away, but for runners, the work of crossing the finish line is already underway.

More than 33,000 athletes earned Boston Marathon qualifying times this year, according to the The Boston Athletic Association, breaking a race record. Still, the cutoff time for this year’s race was the strictest in history, and more than 11,000 runners who qualified had to be turned away.

For those who will eventually take the 26.2-mile journey, it’ll take grit, good preparation, and a cause worth running for to make it from Hopkinton to Boylston Street.

Whether you’re running the race as a qualifier, on behalf of a participating charity, or cheering the athletes on, you’ll be in the company of an inspiring group of people. Each year, Boston.com shares stories from marathon runners tackling the historic race, many of whom are raising funds for causes close to their hearts, honor their loved ones, and achieve lifelong goals.

As we approach this year’s race, we want to hear from this year’s runners: Why are you running the 128th Boston Marathon?

Share your story in 300 words or less for our “Why I’m Running” series by filling out the form below or email us at [email protected]. Include a photo of yourself and why you’re running. We’ll publish your story, and share it on our social media accounts ahead of the Boston Marathon.
