Tracey McGee is running in memory of her dad who ’embraced life’

"His life was the greatest of marathons! He embraced each mile. His race was energetic and filled with adventure and so many amazing spectators."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.

Name: Tracey McGee
Age: 48
From: Shrewsbury, N.J.

On Nov. 30, 2020, the world lost a gregarious, energetic, adventurous, fun-loving, kindhearted and generous soul — my dad.

He lived his life to the fullest. He soaked in every second of every day. He embraced life with reckless abandon and loved fiercely those he encountered on his journey. He was truly blessed, as are those of us who knew him.

To celebrate and honor his beautiful life, we have decided to make a tribute gift in his name to pediatric cancer research at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Hospital.

On April 18, I will be running my 18th Marathon — the 2022 Boston Marathon — in his memory.

His life was the greatest of marathons! He embraced each mile. His race was energetic and filled with adventure and so many amazing spectators. He loved and was so loved along his course.

His finish line came quickly but he had an incredible run.

To celebrate his race, we want to make sure his medal is engraved with everlasting love and meaning.

As a family, we have chosen to fund pediatric cancer research at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Hospital. These children deserve to #LiveLikeTim. A long life filled with love, fun, adventure, excitement and meaning.

We graciously invite you to partake in and be part of keeping his memory and legacy alive for years to come.
