"Every step I take on the course represents a collective effort to honor the bravery and sacrifices of our military community."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Running the Boston Marathon isn’t just about covering 26.2 miles of pavement; it’s a journey that embodies resilience, dedication, and the spirit of community. For me, lacing up my shoes isn’t solely about personal achievement—it’s about honoring the sacrifices of my military family members and giving back to those who’ve served our country. By running the 2024 Boston Marathon, one of the world’s most renowned races, I chose to channel my passion for running and honoring our military members into a cause that’s close to my heart by raising funds and awareness for Fisher House of Boston (FHB).

As someone with family members who have served in the military, I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges they face both during active duty and upon returning home. The sacrifices they make are immeasurable, often enduring long periods of separation from family and bearing the weight of duty with unwavering courage. FHB provides a beacon of support for military families by offering a “home away from home” during times of medical crisis. Their commitment to providing free lodging and support services to families of military service members receiving medical care is nothing short of extraordinary.

By running the Boston Marathon in support of FHB, I aim to shine a spotlight on the invaluable work they do and contribute to their mission of serving those who’ve served us. Every step I take on the course represents a collective effort to honor the bravery and sacrifices of our military community. But my journey doesn’t end at the finish line—it extends to raising vital funds that will directly impact the lives of military families in need.

I hope to inspire others to join me in supporting FHB as every contribution makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those who’ve selflessly served our nation. Together, we can turn each mile of the Boston Marathon into a testament of gratitude and unwavering support for our military heroes and their families.
