Niklas Jordow is running Boston for those struggling with mental health

"I run for anyone who needs someone to hear them."

Niklas Jordow is running the 2024 Boston Marathon.

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

Name: Niklas Jordow
Age: 51
From: Charlestown

I run for anyone struggling with loneliness, depression or thoughts of suicide. I run for anyone who needs someone to hear them. I run for anyone dealing with grief in loss to suicide. I run with my daughter Hannah. We run for SAMARITANS!

In 2023 Samaritans answered 114,463 calls or texts, growing by more than 20%. Those are all individuals struggling with loneliness, depression or suicidal feelings who found someone to listen to them. In addition, Samaritans reached 1,454 young people via “Hey Sam,” its peer-to-peer text network and supported 1,567 loved ones engaged in grief support.

About three years ago I joined Samaritans as a volunteer on the Helpline. I know the impact this organization has firsthand. I hear it in the voices of the people that call in. I’m taking part in 128th Boston Marathon to raise money for this amazing organization. If you can, please donate to my fundraising project on GivenGain!
