Danielle Vousboukis is running Boston for her patients at Spaulding
"I know the fact that I can run, although slowly and with great effort, is a blessing I don’t take for granted."
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your story here.
Name: Danielle Vousboukis
Age: 53
From: West Roxbury
I’m running because I can, and I’m running for those who cannot. I am not a natural runner, and every mile I cover is a challenge for me. I had an acquaintance recently say, “Hey, I saw you running. Did you have ankle weights on?” I did not.
I understand that my running 26.2 miles pales in comparison to what our patients at Spaulding go through as they recover from life-altering injuries to maximize their independence. Thinking about the courage of our patients, and what they go through in their recovery journey, is what gets me through the training.
I know the fact that I can run, although slowly and with great effort, is a blessing I don’t take for granted. I’m proud to work for Spaulding, and to run to raise funding towards their efforts. I’ve seen firsthand the amazing work that Spaulding does while putting the patient’s needs at the center of all decisions.
