Age: 53
From: Newton Center

I am honored to be participating in the 2024 Boston Marathon on behalf of Hospitality Homes, a remarkable nonprofit organization based in Boston. Hospitality Homes extends a compassionate hand to those facing critical medical journeys by providing no-cost and low-cost housing in volunteer host homes and donated apartments.

Since its establishment in 1983, Hospitality Homes has been a beacon of hope for patients and families navigating the challenges of medical care away from home. This invaluable service offers not just a place to stay, but a comforting sanctuary amidst uncertainty, relieving both emotional and financial strains.

My personal connection to this cause runs deep. In 2016, my world was shaken when my teenage daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Within moments, we found ourselves at Boston Children’s Hospital, surrounded by the finest medical care available. The proximity to such exceptional resources was a blessing, making me acutely aware of the immense privilege we held. However, I recognize that not everyone shares this proximity, and many families endure significant burdens to access vital medical treatment. Hospitality Homes steps in where financial strains threaten to overshadow healing, offering over 200,000 nights of lodging to more than 20,000 families since its inception.

The impact of this organization transcends borders, serving patients from all walks of life, across 50 states and 26 countries. By alleviating the staggering costs of accommodations, Hospitality Homes enables families to focus solely on the path to recovery. As I lace up my shoes for the marathon, I carry with me the stories of resilience and hope that define the spirit of Hospitality Homes. Together, with the support of hosts and partners, we stride towards a future where no family faces the daunting journey of medical care alone.
