Let’s face it, anyone can run 26 miles. (Anyone who’s gone through months of grueling training and has a really good pair of sneakers, that is.) But it’s the rare individual who can find 26 marathon-related words in a 225-letter grid.
If you think you’ve got what it takes (to find the words, not run the marathon — that would be crazy!), check out the Boston.com Boston Marathon Word Search, featuring 26 marathon-related words and names for you to seek out (one for each mile, natch).
If some of the words seem incongruous, never fear: Once you’ve found all 26 words, explanations for each of the entries will appear. Please note, though, that unlike in the marathon, with some of these, you’ll have to go backwards.
And if you really want to stick to the spirit of the day, set a timer and see if you can complete the puzzle in less than 2:04:45, the time it took last year’s Boston Marathon winner, John Korir of Kenya, to finish the race. (Extra points if you start on Monday right at 9:37 a.m., when the first group of elite runners takes off.)
If you’re struggling, click on “Assist” below for an opportunity to grab a hint or recruit a friend to help. Happy searching!
