Why I’m Running: ‘Without Children’s Hospital I would not be here today’

Name: Kaleigh Neuhauser
Age: 20
City/State: Sudbury, Mass.

Growing up in Massachusetts, I watched the marathon every year, always getting inspired by the hard work of the runners. In 2013, my dad was running, and I remember making the signs and cheering him on as he ran past us at the halfway point. Not long after that, my family didn’t know if he was alive. My dad never got to finish his 2013 Boston Marathon, which sealed my decision that eventually I would cross the finish line.

A few years later, I was struck by a car, going 37 mph while I was walking home. I was 14 at the time, and didn’t know if I would see tomorrow, let alone run again. I was immediately rushed to Boston Children’s Hospital, where I received life-saving care. A few weeks later, I competed in the middle school state track and field meet. The incredible care I received at children’s saved my life, and helped me get back on my feet. Without Children’s Hospital I would not be here today.

I knew I wanted to run for the Miles for Miracles team to give back and say thank you to an incredible organization. Having the opportunity to give back is a dream come true. The money I am raising for Boston Children’s will help other children see their tomorrow and achieve their dreams.
