This nurse is running Boston to ‘inspire others to give back’

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon athletes share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

I am running the 2025 Boston Marathon for the charity of Tufts Medical Center. This year marks 10 years since I became a nurse and I can’t think of a better way to give back and support patient care. In a world where hospitals are closing and the need for care rises, it is so important to me to raise funds for an organization that makes a profound impact on the lives of those in our community.

I have a connection to Tufts Medical Center as I work at one of their affiliated hospitals, Lowell General Hospital. I attribute the fact that I have come so far in my running career largely to the support and encouragement I have received through my work. In 2022, my organization offered a support group for those who have never tried a triathlon but were interested. I signed up and completed my first triathlon in 2022 and again the following year. Since then, I have not stopped. This experience provided by my workplace helped me to realize that I can do anything I put my mind to. In October of 2023 I ran my first half marathon and in November 2024, I completed my first full marathon.

The experience I have encountered through my work inspired me to run the Boston Marathon for charity. It is an amazing feeling knowing that the money I raise will go to a great cause while also improving my health through my running career. I hope that what I am doing can inspire others to give back in any way they can, but also encourage them to challenge themselves to achieve things they never thought possible.
