He’s running Boston to honor the resilience of his legally blind grandparents

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon athletes share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
My name is Jack Bradley, and I’m honored to run the 2025 Boston Marathon with Team With A Vision, supporting the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI).
This cause is deeply personal to me—I grew up surrounded by the resilience of my legally blind grandparents, Mimi and Papa, and my Great Aunty Marcie. They met at Perkins School for the Blind in 1934 and, despite their vision loss, raised five children, worked full-time jobs, and built a loving home where nothing was out of reach. They taught me determination, independence, and compassion—values I carry every day. My bond with each of them was special.
As a preschooler, I proudly called Aunty Marcie my “Best Friend.” Papa and I spent hours talking sports and listening to games—he’s the reason I’m a huge Red Sox fan. And Mimi? Our countless walks always ended with gallons of ice cream. I started running in 2021 and never imagined I’d take on the Boston Marathon. But after finishing my first marathon in May 2024—overcoming unexpected roadblocks—I realized my resilience comes from them. Running for Team With A Vision lets me honor their legacy and support others facing similar challenges. Any donation or share is greatly appreciated—together, we can make the world a better place for those living with vision loss!
