‘This year is extra special’: Boston Marathon duo to run their 11th race together
Matt Brown and Lucas Carr are raising funds for the Matt Brown Foundation, which supports those affected by illness or injury, particularly paralysis.
In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon athletes share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
Name: Matt Brown
Age: 30
From: Norwood
My name is Matt Brown. I’m 30 years old, from Norwood, Massachusetts, and I’m the president of the Matt Brown Foundation.
This April, my running partner and I, Lucas Carr, will be running our 11th Boston Marathon in the duo division. Over the last 13 years, we have run the Boston Marathon for many great organizations. However, starting in 2021, we started to run the marathon for our own foundation, a dream that we had when we first ran in 2012.
This year is extra special because we were accepted into the Official Charity Program back in the fall. We were graciously given five bibs and we now have five dedicated runners who are raising funds for the foundation. We also received a bib from the City of Boston and we will have a total of seven runners on our marathon team.
Our foundation supports groups, individuals, and families who are suffering from illness or injury with a particular emphasis on paralysis. The team is training hard and everyone is so excited to hit the pavement on Marathon Monday.
