Unemployment rate drops to 5 percent
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire’s unemployment rate in April dropped to 5 percent — the state’s lowest level since December 2008.
The April 2011 rate was 5.4 percent. The unemployment rate in December 2008 was 4.8 percent.
Gov. John Lynch hailed the rate as good news for the state’s economy, but cautioned that 37,000 residents are still looking for work.
The national unemployment rate for April was 8.1 percent — down a fraction of a percentage point from the previous month and the rate a year ago.
Lynch said that more than 6,800 New Hampshire residents found jobs in the past year.
