Here’s David Epstein’s forecast for the second weekend of August

This weekend's weather brings warm temperatures and much less humidity.

The weekend is looking fantastic, and Saturday will be filled with sunshine and pleasantly warm temperatures.

A cold front slipped through the area on Thursday, bringing drier air into the region. That sets us up for a pretty fantastic weekend ahead.

Here’s the complete forecast:

Friday gets more and more comfortable.

Highs Friday will be in the 80s in most areas.

Temperatures Friday will be warm, getting into the 80s, but that humidity is going to feel much less oppressive than what we’ve experienced the past several days. You’ll really start to feel the difference later Friday afternoon and overnight.

This will be the kind of night when you can open the windows and turn off the air conditioning, and you’ll still be comfortable while sleeping.

Saturday will be sunny and warm.

Saturday looks pleasant with dry conditions.

Saturday will be filled with sunshine and pleasantly warm temperatures. If you’re wondering about the coastline, it’s going to be just as warm as inland areas due to a westerly wind. This wind direction keeps the cooler sea breezes from penetrating inland, which means the beaches will be comfortably warm. The dew point won’t be high, so when you get out of the water, you’ll need a towel — and be prepared for it to feel a little chilly.

I can’t rule out a quick shower, especially over northern New England in the middle of the day. But, gloriously, sunshine will be the dominant weather feature of the day.

Sunday looks a lot like Saturday.

It will be seasonable Sunday with low humidity.

Sunday is shaping up to be a carbon copy of the day before, with virtually no chance of rain and temperatures just a touch warmer.

Once again, humidity levels will be low, and if you get up really early Sunday morning, you’ll have just a touch of that fall-like air for an hour or two. Winds will be light, and although the sun will set before 8 p.m., there’s still a nice, long day to enjoy.

Next week:

More summer warmth will start next week. Temperatures will be warm Monday and Tuesday, followed by a cool-down for the middle part of the week, when readings may stay in the 70s. Last August was the warmest around Massachusetts in more than 120 years of record-keeping; this year will be different, and we won’t set a record again. Humidity also won’t be as oppressive as it was during August 2018.

Probability forecasting favors cooler-than-average conditions into the third week of August.
