Video captures blizzard conditions in downtown Boston

Photographer Jack Coen captures stinging gusts and near-whiteout bursts amid Monday’s nor’easter.

Snow piles up in the parking area of 1Lofts mill apartments at 30 Beecher St., Pawtucket, R.I. early Monday morning. Snowfall measured about 14 inches at the time of the photo.

Boston disappeared into a blur of wind and snow as a fierce winter storm sent thick sheets of snow across the region.

Local photographer Jack Coen captured street-level conditions in downtown Boston outside the Old State House. He described the wind as “as fierce as I can remember for a blizzard,” writing that some gusts almost knocked him over and that the snow and wind were “just stinging.”

The scene mirrors what forecasters have warned about across Massachusetts: a dangerous combination of heavy snowfall and damaging wind gusts. The National Weather Service’s Boston office said totals could reach 18 to 24 inches in some areas, with powerful gusts capable of creating whiteout conditions and significant drifting.
