Here’s your weekend weather forecast

While we are in a wintry pattern for the foreseeable future, it doesn’t look like there’s much in the way of big storms on the horizon. The snow from last Saturday remains on the ground in many places because it’s been so cold. Temperatures will continue to be below average right through the weekend, before turning mild early next week. There are a couple of opportunities for light precipitation. The first one will come Friday night as a storm system moves south out of Canada and off the Mid-Atlantic coastline. Presently it looks like accumulations will range from a few flakes to maybe 1/2″ in Boston with up to 2 inches on the southeast coast, Cape Cod and the Islands.

A fast moving low pressure area will graze the Cape and Islands with a couple of hours of snow showers Friday night.

All of us will notice clouds increasing during the day Friday, but they should clear out by Saturday morning after the evening period of snow. Temperatures may not reach freezing the entire weekend west of the coastline. Saturday looks a few degrees milder than Sunday.

Some light snow is possible Friday evening.

Friday’s high temperatures will stay in the mid-to-upper 20s. As the clouds increase, it will feel quite raw by the end of the day. There won’t be much wind.

Saturday and Sunday feature temperatures approaching freezing. Some spots near Boston will go a couple of degrees above freezing Saturday, while interior northern sections of Massachusetts will stay a couple of degrees below. I do expect a fair amount of sunshine both days.

Roads will remain dry all weekend, so, if you’re doing holiday shopping, your biggest challenge will be finding a parking space.

Milder air will start to move northward Sunday night and into Monday, and, as this bumps up against the cold air, there could be some light precipitation in the form of snow or even freezing drizzle. This will be something we’ll have to keep an eye on for the Monday morning commute throughout the weekend because it doesn’t take much precipitation to cause big problems.
