These 4 maps show Hurricane Maria’s path and its impacts
Forecasters continue to monitor Hurricane Maria as the storm continues its track in the Atlantic after leaving behind a devastated Puerto Rico.
“Maria is moving toward the north near 9 miles per hour, and this general motion is expected to continue through Monday,” the National Weather Service advised in its 5 a.m. Sunday update. “On the forecast track, the core of Maria will be moving well east of the United States southeast coast during the next two days.”
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, according to the advisory.
The weather service said swells from the storm are also expected to impact the southeastern coast of the United States, even though the hurricane itself is expected to remain “well offshore.”
“These swells are likely to cause dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents along the coast for the next several days,” according to the service.
