Sunday will have the best weather, but Saturday won’t be far behind
Heavy rain has certainly saturated the ground, and Friday brings a continued chance of showers, especially the first half of the day. Skies won’t clear Friday, and temperatures are going to remain well below seasonal averages, which should be within a few degrees of 70 this time of year, not stuck in the 50s to near 60. If you are driving to your weekend destination Friday, it will be wettest the further north and east you travel and driest over southwestern New England.
Overnight the clouds will finally depart, and this will lead us into the long holiday weekend on a positive note.
Saturday will be dry but have some clouds
Of the three days for the upcoming holiday, Saturday is in the middle. Let’s call it a 6, but Sunday is actually only somewhat better coming in at a 7 or 8 out of 10. My concern Saturday isn’t rain, but clouds, especially along the coastline. Inland areas west of Interstate 495 will enjoy a blend of clouds and sunshine. This is also the case across northern New England where the weather will be similar. Temperatures won’t be hot, but with the very intense rays of the late May sunshine, readings will reach the lower 70s inland and upper 60s at the coast. If you have a desire to go to the beach, don’t forget the sunscreen. The ease at which you can get burned this time of year is independent of temperature.

Saturday’s highs will reach near or just above 70 degrees. Sunday will be similar.
Sunshine is still around Sunday
Sunday is a carbon copy of Saturday’s temperatures with a few clouds, especially along the coast where it will be most noticeable. Temperatures will be nearly identical to Saturday, but a sea breeze at the coast subtracts a few degrees, especially over east facing beaches. Tides are quite high this weekend, so beach space may be at a premium at some of the more narrow coastal locations.
Unsettled Memorial Day

Showers and cool readings return for Monday.
I am having a barbecue at my house on Sunday because I want to avoid any risk of rain on Monday. This is when another weather system approaches from the west and brings back clouds and showers. The lack of sunshine will also mean cooler temperatures with all of us back into the mid 60s. Some areas may not even reach 60 along the coast, certainly not the best day for the unofficial kickoff to summer.
Two out of three ain’t bad
As one storm departs Friday, a two-day break in the cloudy, cool, and wet regime takes place. While this isn’t ideal, it does mean 66 percent of the holiday weekend will be rather nice. It won’t be as warm as some of you would like, but never the less it will be nice enough to get outside and start off the summer season.
