Weekend weather: What you need to know for every activity you have planned
The final weekend of April is here. It won’t be a perfect one, but it’s going to be rather nice each day — even though the air will feel quite different each day.
Let’s start with Friday afternoon and evening when sunshine should be abundant along with mild temperatures. If you haven’t yet taken advantage of the spring weather, this evening is a great opportunity to do so: The sun will set after 7:30 p.m., and temperatures will be warm. If you’re heading to Fenway Park, it’ll be a perfect night for a game.
Saturday will bring the warmest day of the weekend with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. There will also be a touch of humidity. I can’t rule out a pop-up shower or storm, but most of the day will be dry.
Sunday will be cooler by quite a bit. Highs will reach the mid-to-upper 60s inland, but hang out in the upper 50s and lower 60s along the coast. Sunday features a blend of clouds and sunshine. In other words, it’ll be a very typical April day.
If you are heading to the beach this weekend …
Yes, you may be able to find some time on the beach this weekend, even though you probably won’t be laying out or going swimming. Tides are astronomically high, which can be fun to watch in the early afternoon. Another bonus? You probably won’t have to worry too much about finding a parking space.
If you’re going hiking or running …
Saturday is a warm day, so plan on running early. Temperatures in the 80-degree range with humidity make the afternoon it a bit uncomfortable for a long run. Sunday is a better day for hiking with a blend of clouds, sunshine, and cooler air.

Highs Saturday reach near 80 in many places.
If you’re hitting the roads …
The only chance of showers is Saturday, so if you are traveling, keep that in mind. Sunday is a dry day with cooler air.
If you’re playing any field games or golf …
After many days of wet weather, I expect good field conditions Saturday. If you play on an area with poor drainage, there might still be some squishy spots, but generally expect to see a lot of green grass.

It will be cooler Sunday with an onshore breeze
If you’re gardening …
It’s a great weekend to move plants, oversee the lawn, and put in new perennials. Mulch will help keep in the moisture we’ve had recently. Be sure to sharpen your mower’s blades so you don’t tear the new grass.
If you’re going skiing …
This is the final weekend of skiing for places like Sunday River in Maine. You can expect spring conditions both days. Morning skiing is always best. And be sure to bid farewell to the slopes until next year.
I will be updating the forecast on Twitter @growingwisdom throughout the weekend.
