Weekend Weather: What you need to know for every activity you have planned
Colder weather is the theme this weekend, but not the kind of cold that will prevent you from venturing outside and enjoying winter activities.
A flow of air out of Canada Friday and Saturday will keep temperatures below seasonal averages, with highs barely near 30 degrees. A bit of milder air and cloudy skies move in on Sunday, but temperatures will only reach the high 30s on Sunday afternoon. I can’t rule out a mild rain or snow shower on Sunday.

Highs on Friday will be colder than recent days.
For planning purposes keep an eye on the forecast next Tuesday. Things could become messy, with snow changing to rain, leading to travel issues Tuesday afternoon and evening.
If you’re hitting the roads this weekend…
Roads should be dry nearly all weekend. If you are driving in northern New England on Sunday, there might be a few snow showers, especially in higher elevations.
If you’re heading to Logan Airport…
Storm-free weather across much of the nation results in fewer delays as you board airplanes this weekend. The one exception is the Pacific Northwest, where more rain and snow are on tap. Those areas have the highest chances of delays.
If you’re going skiing…
Some natural snow this week has kept snow cover in good shape. Southern New England ski areas have been able to make snow as well. Temperatures will be in the low 20s across higher elevations this weekend. Winds will be gusty on the mountain peaks.

Winds will be noticeable this weekend, especially on mountain peaks.
If you’re playing any field games or winter golf…
Even a bit of snow can shut down golf courses and playing fields. Some areas on Cape Cod might be open, but call ahead to be sure. It will be cold for golfing (even winter golf).

Temperatures remain below freezing Saturday
If you’re going hiking or running…
Dry roads and the lack of snow banks will keep runners happy this weekend. If you are training for the big race in April, the early morning cold will be your only issue.
I will be updating the forecast on Twitter @growingwisdom throughout the weekend.
