Here’s what the weather will be like for Allston Christmas

The weather will cooperate this year when moving all your stuff into a new apartment or dorm.

When you’re moving your stuff into a new building—double-parked with a couch sitting on the sidewalk and trying to lug a mattress up three flights of stairs—you don’t want it to be miserably hot and humid. You definitely don’t want it to rain.

The good news for the many of you moving in or out this week is that the weather looks generally cooperative, with a minor glitch possible.

Let’s chat about temperatures first: In spite of it being the hottest August on record, temperatures will not be anywhere near record territory on August 31 or September 1. The last time we had really hot weather for move-in day was 2010—that’s when temperatures reached near-record territory: 96 degrees on the 31st of August, and 94 the following day. The record high for August 31 is 97 degrees, and for September 1 it’s 96.

This year, temperature highs will be in the 80s on Wednesday and well into the 70s on Thursday, which is about average for September 1.

There’s a slight chance for a sprinkle or shower Thursday morning, but the day will then turn partly to mostly sunny, and there will be lowering humidity as well. Wednesday will have higher moisture and feel quite muggy all day.

If we do get a shower Thursday it won’t amount to much. There’s been as much as two inches of rain on the first day of September. In spite of us needing rain, it’s great it won’t occur during the biggest moving day of the year.

The reason for the nice weather is an area of high pressure building in from Canada. In spite of the tropics being very active right now, our weather is being controlled by weather systems which don’t allow any rain. This is certainly welcome news.
