It felt like fall this morning, but summer weather isn’t over by a long shot
More heat and humidity are on the way.
Most of us awoke Tuesday morning to temperatures in the 50s, with readings in the upper 40s in the coldest spots. Even Boston’s low temperatures fell to around 60 degrees, giving us that feeling of fall.
It felt autumnal because of both the cool temperatures and the very dry air. Low dew points in the 40s provide a crispness to the air we usually begin seeing a few times in August and then much more frequently as we head through September.
But if you’re wondering if this is the start of a new pattern, the answer is no. Humidity will increase the rest of the week, and by Friday, dew points will be back in the 60s to near 70 degrees. It will feel very muggy and hot.

Dew points will rise into the 60s later this week, making it more uncomfortable outside.
Readings Wednesday and for the foreseeable future will rise into the 80s each afternoon. As a matter of fact, a few spots may nudge or exceed 90 degrees on Thursday or Friday this week.

On Friday, areas away from the shoreline will reach or exceed 90 degrees.
There is even a chance for summertime scattered thunderstorms late this week. On Thursday, the storms will be well west of Boston, but by Friday, there’s a tiny possibility that you could see an afternoon storm. Then it’s more dry and sunny weather all weekend.

There is no chance of any rain around Boston through Thursday and only a slight chance on Friday.
The bottom line: It might have felt like fall this morning, but a very summery pattern is going to remain in control for quite a while, along with plenty of beach days!
