Expect sunshine on Saturday, but some showers on Sunday.

The weekend is finally about to arrive, and the rain has cleared the area just in time.

The rain of this morning has now exited the area and we are looking at a nice evening across most of southern New England.  Some clouds over Cape Cod will clear before sunset.

Today, the humidity was high. It felt very tropical—hence the heavy rain earlier in spots. However, you can plan outdoor activities for Saturday, which has no chance of rain. According to today’s weather system, the area skies will clear, leaving us with a great day. Another weather system approaches on Sunday and brings with it a chance of showers. With the cloud cover that day, temperatures will be much cooler, but it will feel a bit muggy.

High temperatures forecast Saturday

High temperatures forecast for Saturday, July 30, 2016.

If you are going hiking, biking or running…

Saturday is the big day for getting outside. Hikers should plan on a few showers on Sunday, although they will be scattered, so you could luck out and avoid them. Watch for puddles on Sunday if you are biking in areas that do get showers. This is especially true in the afternoon.

If you’re going beaching and boating…

North Shore of Massachusetts, New Hampshire Seacoast, and the coast of Maine: In Boston, tides are high at about 8 in the morning, give or take, depending on the beach. If you are digging for worms and clams, know that the early afternoon will see the most exposure of the beaches and flats. For boaters on Saturday, expect a northeasterly wind of about 10 to 15 knots, with seas around two feet. On Sunday, winds will shift to a more southerly direction, with wind speeds at 10 knots or less, and wave heights of one to two feet.

Water temperatures will be in the upper 60s to mid-70s—those higher readings are for farther south. Maine beach waters will be in the mid-60s.

If you’re playing soccer, softball, baseball, or golf…

Saturday’s forecast: Mostly sunny, very warm, and moderately humid.  No chance of rain, and fields will quickly dry from any Friday rainfall. Greens and fairways will remain fast in drought-stricken areas even if some rain falls Friday.

Sunday’s outlook: Clouds will increase, making for a cooler day. Look for developing showers, as well.

If you’re gardening…

Most areas won’t get enough rain this weekend to prevent you from needing to water your plants. It’s best to do so early in the day. Measure the rainfall or check online to see how much you receive, and read my article about caring for you plants during the drought here.

If you’re running errands…

Plan on doing errands on Sunday if it’s feasible for you. Sunday will be the cloudiest day and the only day this weekend when rain is possible. Saturday’s weather looks great.

If you’re going to a concert, outdoor party, or wedding…

Temperatures on Saturday afternoon are going to be quite warm, well into the 80s. Remember: Stay hydrated and use sunscreen.
