The wind and rain are continuing in Southern New England, with strong damaging winds on the Cape, a flood warning, and power outages. Precipitation began Sunday afternoon and likely won’t let up until Monday evening.

A flood warning for the Boston area extends until 10 a.m. Monday, while a flood watch is in order until Monday evening as excessive rainfall continues.

More than a thousand people are without power, including a large percentage on parts of the South Shore as of 9:30 a.m. Earlier this morning, some reports said almost 10,000 people were affected by outages.

Boston and the North Shore are under a flood warning as flooding of area creeks and streams is “imminent or occurring,” the National Weather Service said.

In some areas, the rain is getting stronger. From Eastern Connecticut up through Central Massachusetts and Worcester, heavy rain is expected to reach 3 to 6 inches of rain.

Winds could even cause damage on Cape Cod and the Islands Monday, reaching 50 to 60 mph. On the mainland, winds will be closer to 25 to 35 mph.

With a small craft advisory in place, the MBTA initially canceled ferry service Monday morning but then announced service to Boston in the 8 a.m. hour.

Monday night’s forecast is set to be mostly clear. Temperatures will drop to around 28 degrees, a sudden change after a warm and wet weekend.
