When renowned Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore shows up in town, you know it’s time to hunker down. Well, he’s here — and on Monday morning, he experienced one of his favorite meteorological events live on the air.
“Holy smoke! We got it again, baby!” Cantore declared from Plymouth as lightning briefly lit up his live shot on The Weather Channel. “In the same place! Unbelievable.”
Cantore made clear his love of thundersnow and the lightning that accompanies it when he was in Plymouth back in the stormy winter of 2015, and experienced the same phenomenon live on the air. At the time he said it was the fifth time that had happened while he was broadcasting live.
Later on Monday, The Weather Channel actually released a video showing the two incidents side by side:
“To have it happen while you’re on air is pretty amazing,’’ Cantore said in 2015. And his reaction on Monday showed his opinion hasn’t changed.
Cantore was first spotted in the area on Sunday, prompting locals to batten down their hatches. “He is probably a very nice man but it is never a good sign when he is in town,” noted one commenter on Facebook.
On Sunday afternoon, meanwhile, Cantore gave Weather Channel viewers a preview of the storm to come:
