Wintry weather is already here for at least one spot in New England.
The Mount Washington Observatory said Monday it officially recorded its first measurable snowfall of the season — 0.1” — the result of almost 36 hours of below-freezing temperatures atop the summit.
The observatory said the weather called for “all hands on deck” as staff worked to ensure instruments stayed warm enough to continue functioning through the wintry hours.
Staff posted photos of the scene atop the mountain to the observatory’s social media pages.
“Getting this close to or below freezing this time of year is very normal,” Jay Broccolo, director of weather operations for the observatory, told The Boston Globe.
Last year, the first measurable snowfall was observed on the New Hampshire mountain in early October, while the previous year saw the accumulation in mid-September.
