Timing: When precipitation is forecast to end on New Year’s Eve in Massachusetts
“Expect the lingering mixed bag of precipitation to slowly taper off from south to north this morning.”
The cold precipitation that drenched and slicked over Massachusetts in the last days of 2019 is forecast to taper off in time for New Year’s celebrations on Tuesday. The National Weather Service is predicting the mix of rain and freezing rain to end across the state Tuesday morning, but cautioned that some icing is still possible north and west of I-495 through 10 a.m. “Expect the lingering mixed bag of precipitation to slowly taper off from south to north this morning,” forecasters wrote. “A few intermittent snow showers are possible for New Year’s Eve celebrations across western Massachusetts into the Connecticut River Valley.”

Dry conditions should be present for most of the region on Tuesday evening and New Year’s Day is forecast to be mostly sunny with highs ranging from the mid-30s to the lower 40s.
