Maps: How much snow is forecast to fall in Massachusetts on Tuesday

Forecasters say the accumulating snow and ice will “significantly” impact the morning commute.

Massachusetts travelers are in for an “ugly” commute on Tuesday morning, according to local meteorologists. “Snow develops south of the [Mass.] Pike between 3 and 6 am Tuesday with a significant impact to the AM commute, before changing to a wintry mix,” the National Weather Service said. “Lighter snow overspreads northern [Massachusetts] by mid-Tuesday a.m.”Snow and ice will continue Tuesday afternoon, with a changeover to rain southeast of I-95, according to the service.  Light icing is possible south of Mass. Pike. Service forecasters have issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of Massachusetts, in effect from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The meteorologists are estimating that between 2 and 5 inches of snow will accumulate, with higher amounts nearer to the Pike. “The biggest concern is the Tuesday AM commute, near and especially south of the MA Turnpike where snow may be falling moderate to heavy before changing to ice and rain along the immediate coast,” the forecasters said of the weather system. “Further north, the snow arrives later and probably with less intensity. However, it will continue through the afternoon and probably into the evening.”Below, seven maps from local meteorologists predicting how much snow the region will see accumulate on Tuesday.
