The initial snowfall accumulations are in, even as snow and rain continue to fall across Massachusetts in what meteorologists have called a “prolonged winter storm.”
The storm, which began Sunday, is forecast to intensify Monday night over the region through Tuesday morning and result in “another round of accumulating snowfall,” according to National Weather Service meteorologists. Most of Massachusetts is under either a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory through 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Already, eastern Massachusetts is estimated to have seen between 2 and 3 inches of accumulation, while the central and western parts of the state have observed higher totals. The service is predicting the state could see an additional 4 to 8 inches of accumulation by the time the storm is over.
