Anyone making their Thanksgiving travels on Tuesday have the pick of weather for the week, according to local forecasters.

Tuesday was forecast as sunny with a high of 59 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

“Today’s a good day for traveling,” said Alan Dunham, a meteorologist with the service. “So people can sneak out early, that’s the best bet.”

Other forecasters agreed.

“Best travel day weatherwise is today,” WBZ meteorologist Sarah Wroblewski said.

Wednesday, which is supposed to have some of the worst traffic of the holiday week, is forecast to be not as nice. Dunham said the day is predicted as cloudy with rain showers in the afternoon. High temperatures are expected in the upper 40s into the 50s.

“If you have travel plans Wednesday … be ready for some wet roads,” Meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon of WCVB said. “Light rain is expected in the afternoon into the evening hours.  It’ll taper off late Wednesday night.”

Thanksgiving comes with a “chance of showers, mainly before 4 p.m.,” according to the service. High temperatures are forecast at 47 degrees.

“Windy Turkey Day… mid to upper 40s around Noon, fades back a few degrees mid to late afternoon,” Chris Lambert, a meteorologist with 7 News, said.” Winds gusts to 40mph. AM sprinkle/flurry, but much of the day is dry.”

Friday and Saturday are predicted to be sunny, the service said. The high on Friday is 39 degrees; Saturday comes with a high of 37 degrees.

Sunday will have rain and snow showers, the service predicts. The chance or precipitation is 70 percent and the high is set near 40 degrees.

“That will continue into Sunday night,” Dunham said. “So your best travel days are today [Tuesday], tonight, Friday, and Saturday.”
