Maps: What forecasters are predicting for rain and wind on Halloween
There could be a “brief lull” in time for trick-or-treating.
The weather may provide a treat, rather than a trick, for costumed candy-seekers out for Halloween on Thursday.

Rain and wind are in the forecast, but meteorologists with the National Weather Service said there may be a “brief” reprieve during the evening hours.
“Periods of rain, steady at times, will continue today into this afternoon,” the forecasters wrote. “A brief lull in rain chances into early to mid evening, before rain intensity increases to become briefly heavy before midnight [and] into overnight – along a sharp, strong cold front.”
Rain totals, from Wednesday into Friday, are forecast to total between half an inch to an inch across eastern Massachusetts, with higher totals in the western parts of the state.
The timing of the strongest possible winds is forecast between midnight and 6 a.m. Friday, according to the service, which expanded its High Wind Warning to include the Boston-Providence corridor.
Boston could see wind gusts as high as 51 mph.
“Greatest potential for wind damage and power disruptions in the area shaded in dark brown, though is possible anywhere,” forecasters wrote.
