Local meteorologists are predicting that while there will be mild temperatures in the low 60s for Halloween activities Thursday (some towns have rescheduled), rain and wind could impact the holiday.
The National Weather Service said there is an increasing chance of showers heading into Thursday.
“Long, drawn-out period of rain begins tonight, continuing into early Friday; period of enhanced/possibly heavy rainfall after midnight Thursday night into early Friday along/ahead of a cold front,” forecasters said Wednesday. “Few thunder rumbles possible in that timeframe as well, especially southeast of I-95.”
The impact of the rain — forecast to total around 1 to 1.5 inches — would be largely limited to “poor-drainage flooding,” such as from leaf-clogged drains, the service said.
Thursday night into Friday, Boston could see wind gusts of up to 38 mph, while towns on Cape Cod could see winds of more than 50 mph.
“HIGH WIND WATCHES posted from Late Thursday Night Thru Friday AM,” service forecasters wrote. “Though it will be breezy to gusty Thursday evening, the worst of the winds are mainly in the pre-dawn hours Friday to mid-morning Friday.”
