David Epstein breaks down how Hurricane Dorian will impact Massachusetts

And the rest of the upcoming forecast.

Friday is a dry day with plenty of clouds mixing with sunshine. The farther north you go the brighter the sun will be, the farther south the thicker the clouds. Later this evening, rain will begin to overspread the area from the ocean as the winds also increase. There is still a Tropical Storm Warning for Cape Cod and the Islands because the winds may reach 39 mph or higher.

A Tropical Storm Warning and a High Surf Advisory (purple) are posted.

The winds could lead to scattered power outages and minor beach erosion, but this is not a big deal, especially when you consider all the storms that Cape Cod has experienced over the years. For the rest of us, we’re just looking at some rain, generally on the order of a half an inch up to 2 inches. All of this inclement weather is, of course, associated with Hurricane Dorian, which will be headed toward Nova Scotia Saturday night.

Highs Friday will be in the upper 60s in most areas.

Saturday

If you have outdoor plans Saturday morning, they may be affected by showery weather, especially from Boston south. As the morning progresses, the rain will shut off and skies will begin to clear. I expect plenty of sunshine by the afternoon, although temperatures will remain quite cool, staying in the 60s.

Saturday is cool with improving conditions.

Sunday

This is my pick for the weekend with the most amount of sunshine and pleasant temperatures. For those who are headed to the beach, be aware that there still will be some residual rough surf, although the chances of rip tides will be diminishing. Tides are also no longer astronomically high.

Temperatures will be comfortable on Sunday with low humidity.

Early next week

Looking back at the record books, we haven’t had seven days in a row where the temperature has remained under 80 degrees since the middle of May. When you combine the temperatures we are seeing now, with what the beginning of the week brings, it is likely we will have a full seven-day period with temperatures under 80 degrees. I do look for a lot of sunshine to start the new work week, and it will be wonderful for any September outdoor activities.
