Here’s what local forecasters are saying about the winter weather predicted for Sunday
Snow and rain are in the forecast.
Snow may be in the forecast for Sunday, but the winter weather should be “very minor,” according to the National Weather Service.
“Sunday, we’re going to have a system move into the area that will bring snow showers with minor accumulation,” Lenore Correia, a meteorologist with the service, said Thursday. “We’re not expecting more than an inch or two [of snow].”
Boston can expect the snow in the middle of the morning, she said, and it won’t last.
“It’ll be pretty brief and then, after like two or three hours, it will change over to rain,” Correia said, noting that the rain could amount to about a half inch. “So it’s not a drenching rain, but a decent rain.”
There’s “not a big concern” for sleet or freezing rain, according to Correia. Temperatures in Boston should hit the low-to-mid 40s “so that’s why the snow will be short lived.” The Cape could see wind gusts of up to 30 mph, but wind won’t be a factor in the Boston area. Flooding isn’t expected.
“Most will start as snow after midnight then change to sleet/freezing rain, followed by plain rain,” the service said on Twitter late Thursday afternoon.

Michael Page, a meteorologist with NBC10 Boston and NECN, called the forecast for Sunday “a little taste of winter, but more of a nuisance than anything.”

Shiri Spear, a meteorologist with Boston 25 News, said the north and west are predicted to see more precipitation.

WCVB meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon said Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days for plans outside.

Eric Fisher, a meteorologist with WBZ, said Sunday’s weather “shouldn’t be a big deal” considering the switch to rain and how temperatures are expected to rise.
