7 maps forecasting how much snow will fall in Massachusetts on Tuesday
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Western Massachusetts, while the central part of the state is under a Winter Weather Advisory.
Wintry weather is in the forecast for Massachusetts on Tuesday — and it will be followed by frigid cold. The National Weather Service is predicting the mix of rain and snow will arrive in southern New England late in the day and evening, with the “bulk of the snow” accumulating in the interior part of the state with mainly rain along the I-95 corridor. “The heaviest snow accumulations will be across the interior high terrain of Massachusetts and particularly along the east slopes of the Berkshires,” the forecasters said. The service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Western Massachusetts, while the central part of the state is under a Winter Weather Advisory.
“All the precipitation should exit the region from west to east between 2 and 5 a.m. [Wednesday morning],” the service said. “Colder air may result in areas that have changed to rain [ending] as a brief period of snow. Untreated roads may remain slippery though for the [Wednesday] morning commute… mainly across interior southern New England.”Forecasters warned that on Wednesday evening an Arctic cold front could bring some scattered snow squalls to the region between 3 and 7 p.m., which will be followed by “bitterly cold temperatures” that will last through Friday morning. Below, seven maps from meteorologists predicting how much snow could accumulate from Tuesday’s system.
