‘Soaking rain’ is in the forecast for Monday

Forecasters say damaging winds, coastal flooding, and even some snow could be seen in Massachusetts.

Forecasters are warning Massachusetts residents to be prepared Monday for several weather hazards, including heavy rain, fog, and damaging winds.The National Weather Service advised commuters to take it slow in the morning, issuing a dense fog advisory, which was in place until 10 a.m.

Forecasters predicted rain would follow the fog, arriving in the region in the late morning and early afternoon. A “soaking rain” was expected during the evening hours.

“Highs top out in the mid 40s today with rain showers, but the most impact from this storm system comes Monday evening through early Tuesday,” the service said.

While most of Massachusetts is expected to see rain, the northwest part of the state could see some snow accumulation, according to forecasters.

The weather agency said a coastal flooding advisory has been issued for Eastern Massachusetts and Nantucket, in effect from noon through Tuesday morning.

“There will also be a period of strong to damaging winds along the coast tonight,” forecasters said.

Wind gusts could reach between 40 and 60 mph, which could down trees and cause power outages in the eastern part of the state.

Forecasters said the precipitation is expected to continue through Tuesday afternoon.
