Maps: Here’s how much rain is in the forecast for Massachusetts — and when it’s expected to fall
A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for parts of the Bay State on Thursday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting that widespread rain with embedded heavy showers and thunderstorms will impact Massachusetts.
“There is the potential for two inch-per-hour rainfall rates leading to urban and poor drainage flooding throughout the day,” service meteorologists said. “Some of the storms could be strong, potentially severe, with embedded threats of isolated strong to damaging winds, including a non-zero threat of a brief tornado, in addition to heavy rains.”

Most of the state, including Boston, is forecast to see between 2 and 3 inches of rain and a Flash Flood Watch, in effect through 8 p.m., has been issued for about half of the Bay State.
The service said the rain may help erase the particularly dry conditions some parts of the state have been experiencing.
“We’ve only accumulated ½ to ¾ of the rainfall we usually see during the month,” forecasters said.
After Thursday’s rain, summer heat is expected to return Friday through Monday.
“Heat and humidity will build across the region with consecutive days of high temperatures in the low to mid 90s, with heat indices as high as 100 degrees,” the service said.
