Mayor Marty Walsh declares heat emergency for Boston
“This weekend is going to be hot in Boston.”
With dangerously hot temperatures in the forecast for the weekend, Mayor Marty Walsh has declared a heat emergency in the City of Boston. The heat emergency is in effect in the city starting Friday at noon through Sunday evening.“This weekend is going to be hot in Boston,” the mayor wrote on Twitter.

Temperatures are expected to reach between 92 and 96 degrees, but it will feel in the high 90s and above 100 degrees for most of the weekend. To help residents beat the heat, the city is opening Boston Centers for Youth & Families locations as cooling centers. City pools will also be open free of charge.
The National Weather Service warns that Saturday and Sunday especially will be “major scorchers.” The service has issued an excessive heat warning for much of the region, which is in effect through Sunday.
“Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside,” the weather service wrote of the heat. “When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.”

• Recognize & respond to heat-related illnesses
• Check on elderly & those at risk
• Check with local officials or call 2-1-1 to find cooling centers
