Will it snow in Massachusetts on Christmas Day?
The short answer: Yes, but it depends where you are.
“Expect light snow showers to start before the rain/snow line mixes into Connecticut, Rhode Island and into eastern [Massachusetts],” the National Weather Service said on Facebook Sunday evening. “There is the potential for a burst of snow between 7 [a.m.] to 10 [a.m.] which could quickly lower visibilities and result in snow covered roads. Best area is in northern [Connecticut], west and north central [Massachusetts] and possibly northeast Massachusetts. Sleet and freezing rain along a line from Hartford, [Connecticut,] up into Lawrence, [Massachusetts]. A glaze of ice is possible.”

“Strong and possibly damaging winds will follow behind the storm on Christmas Day,” the service added, “especially from late morning through the afternoon.”
The strongest winds will be on Cape Cod and the Islands, according to the service.
In Boston, a mix of snow and rain was expected to start overnight and continue through 1 p.m. on Christmas Day. “New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible,” the service’s seven-day forecast for the city said as of Sunday evening.
As for what’s ahead?
“Arctic air will pour into the region for most of the week,” the service said on Facebook earlier Sunday. “Highs should only reach the teens and 20s by Wednesday and Thursday, and lows will fall into the single numbers, if not below zero across parts of the interior. Get ready to bundle up!”
