Parts of the New England coastline are under a high surf advisory
"It's probably best to stay out of the water today."
Though Hurricane Gert is out to sea, the powerful storm is still impacting the New England coast.The National Weather Service in Taunton issued a high surf advisory Wednesday for coastal Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the islands.
“Be careful and be aware that we have a high surf advisory, and we have a high risk of rip currents on the south coast,” said Lenore Correia, a meteorologist with the service. “So it’s probably best to stay out of the water today.”
Due to rough seas and the threat of rip currents, the town of Westport announced on Facebook that Horseneck and Town Beaches are closed for the day, while the Cape Cod National Seashore reminded beachgoers to pay attention to the warnings.
Correia expects the conditions to return to normal on Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Caribou, Maine, also issued a high surf advisory for parts of the Maine coast.
