This map encapsulates Monday’s bizarre weather in southern New England
If rain and a chilly breeze on July 24 made you think you’re near the Arctic Circle, you actually undersold the weather in southern New England.
At 3 p.m., it was warmer in parts of Alaska and near the Arctic Circle than it was in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in Boston neared record lows for July 24, the service said.
Boston was 58 at 1 PM and only 4 degrees from the record low of 54 set way back in 1893.
