Winter storm watch issued for Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard
The National Weather Service is cautioning residents on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard to be wary of the ocean storm developing this weekend.
The service issued a winter storm watch for the Cape and islands, in effect from 8 p.m. Saturday through Sunday evening.
Areas included in the advisory could see heavy, wet snow, accumulations between three and five inches, and winds gusts up to 55 mph, according to the service.
“While forecast snowfall accumulations are below warning criteria, the watch has been issued to account for the potential impacts of downed limbs and power outages,” the service said in a statement.
The watch is also being maintained due to the uncertainty over the storm’s path.

Forecasters are expecting Boston will see less snowfall than the south coast, Cape, and islands. With the storm’s unpredictability, meteorologists are forecasting the metro area could see between two and four inches, compared with up to six inches south of the city.
