Residents of southern New England are getting a reminder that it’s still winter with the arrival of a snowstorm Friday morning. The snow, which is expected to start falling after midnight, could drop one to three inches on the Greater Boston area and towns north of the Mass. Pike, while southeastern Massachusetts could get four to seven inches, according to the National Weather Service. Cape Cod could get between six and eight inches. The service has issued a winter storm watch for southeastern Massachusetts and a winter storm warning for Cape Cod and the Islands from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

“During those predawn hours right into the morning commute is when we’re expecting the accumulating snows to occur,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Nicole Belk.
The snow isn’t expected to start until after midnight, but Belk cautioned it will be underway for the Friday morning commute.
With the highest snow totals anticipated for the Cape and islands, Belk said commuting south of Boston is “going to be much more difficult” than north of the city.
